Behind the Scenes of Genious Loves Company "Getting to record with Ray has been a lifelong dream, and being part of this project has been one of the proudest and most moving moments in my life." -Bonnie Raitt "The Genius of Soul, the King of the Blues, the fifth Beatle -- not the least bit intimidating, I think it happened with virtually everybody who hadn't worked with him before. But it didn't last too long. He respected all these artists." -Producer John Burk on working with Ray Charles, B.B. King and Billy Preston. "He is not just an ordinary singer, musician or icon. He's the best of the best." -Johnny Mathis on Ray Charles "The emotion in the room when we were recording that track was overwhelming,There wasn't a dry eye in the control room-and these are very experienced people who have seen a lot of things." -John Burk describes recording with Ray "I was so excited to be singing with Ray and when I sat down next to him with an 80-piece orchestra I was struck by what an awesome event it was." -Michael Mcdonald recalls his work on "Genius" |
Ray Charles and Company
Ray Charles is a remarkable artist whose 79 GRAMMY® nominations distinguishes him as one of the most influential and soulful musicians of our time. In Genius Loves Company, Ray performs 14 tracks of duets that cross several genres. "We cover it all," Ray says, "from country to R&B, pop, rock and blues. I've never let them put me in a little box, and this CD expresses that open feeling. A beautiful song is a beautiful song-and to sing with so many beautiful singers is a blessing from God."
"I've recorded with so many amazing artists in my career but never on a duets album of my own. I thought it was time to have some of the friends that I love and the artists that I admire come into my studio and sing with me live, the way we did it in the old days," explains Ray Charles on the genesis of Genius Loves Company. "All the guests brought their own magic to each song. That's what we wanted and that's exactly what we got."
